The Class Manager & Stage Stubs team is growing, and we’re thrilled to introduce you to our newest team member: Jess, our new Head of Product.

We’ve all been so excited to welcome Jess to Head Office—not only because of her outstanding product expertise (though we’re looking forward to her keeping us all on our toes!) but also because of her inspiring background as a professional ballerina.

It’s a Ballerina’s life…

Jess’s ballerina journey began at just three years old, when her mum took her to her very first ballet class. From then on, well, you could say the rest was history, as her love for ballet only grew.

At 16, she was accepted to join the English National Ballet School. Moving from her childhood home in Surrey to the big city, she dedicated three years to intensive study and training before earning her first professional contract with Cork City Ballet in Ireland.

With Cork City Ballet, Jess performed in classics such as The Nutcracker and La Bayadère. She later signed with the Ballet Russe, a Russian dance company based in the UK, where she took on a range of roles, including the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, one of the Big Swans in Swan Lake, and La Fille Mal Gardée. Touring the UK and Dubai with them.

Leaving ballet…

Sadly, during a rehearsal one day, Jess suffered a slipped disc in her back. Like many passionate dancers, she pushed through the pain for as long as she could—performing for almost a year with the injury—before finally having to step away from professional ballet.

After surgery, dancing at a professional level was no longer possible. But Jess wasn’t ready to leave the world of ballet behind just yet. She retrained as a teacher, gaining her BBO qualification and opening her own ballet school, where she taught everyone from toddlers to adults, both in group classes and private lessons.

While rewarding, teaching without being able to dance herself proved challenging,  and Jess eventually decided to explore a new path.

From Soubresaut’s to Spreadsheets…

So how does someone go from professional ballerina to Head of Product at a software company? Seems like a bit of a grande jeté to us.

But, it turns out the skills Jess honed as a dancer—discipline, organisation, motivation, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team—translated perfectly into product management.

She started in an admin role within a product team, and quickly rose through the ranks, gaining valuable experience across various product roles along the way.

Now, she joins us at Class Manager & Stage Stubs, where she’s part of a team full of dancers, dance teachers, and studio managers—all working together to build software that dance studios can truly rely on to run and grow their businesses.
