About Rob Howarth
Rob Howarth is a highly experienced dance studio manager and a recognised Class Manager guru. With decades of hands-on experience, Rob has successfully managed multiple dance studios across Derby, working with a wide range of locations, age groups, and dance genres. Alongside overseeing the administrative and operational side of studio management using Class Manager, Rob also runs several large-scale dance competitions. These events span four weekends, attract over 1,500 entries, and involve approximately 68 hours of judging across an intensive eight-day schedule. Rob is a true fountain of knowledge when it comes to dance management, studio operations, and maximising the potential of Class Manager, making him a trusted authority within the dance community. Often described as a “secret weapon” in his sister’s dance school, Rob's passionate about sharing knowledge to save time and reduce workloads for dance studio owners.
How many years of experience in the dance industry do you have?
My dance journey began at 16, assisting in salsa classes, and progressed through qualifications in dance fitness, Acrobatic Arts, and flexibility training. I’ve taught Acro and Conditioning for several years and now focus on dance-tech work.
How many years of teaching do you have?
I’ve been teaching since age 17, starting with swimming and junior gym instruction, and later supporting Acro at the dance studio and community outreach with Derby County FC. I’ve also lectured at a local college on anatomy, physiology, and exercise.
How many years of managing or running a dance studio do you have?
I’ve managed JL Dance Academy since 2012, helping it grow alongside my sister’s establishment. I also run dance competitions, a pre-school dance franchise, and have directed a dance associate programme. I combine a strong fitness and dance background with years of teaching and studio management experience. My qualifications span strength and conditioning, flexibility, acrobatics, and dance fitness, while my current focus is on dance technology and streamlining studio operations.
