Get Your Dance Studio Ready for the January Rush

6 min read

We know, we know — it’s only just Halloween, and the idea of thinking about January feels overwhelming, and silly, seeing as it’s sooooo far away!

You’re probably knee-deep in end-of-year recitals, shows, and the general chaos that comes with this season.

But here’s the thing: putting the groundwork in now will pay off massively come January. While other studios are scrambling to handle trial requests and new sign-ups, you’ll already be set up for success — confidently converting trial students into long-term, loyal dancers.

So, what do you need to do to prepare?

1. Get Your Trial Lessons Set Up in Your Portal

First things first — people can’t attend your lessons if they can’t sign up easily!

Your sign-up process should be as simple as possible. The smoother the sign-up journey, the fewer potential students you’ll lose, before they’ve even set foot in the door.

Make sure your portal allows people to:

  • Select their chosen trial class

  • Book and pay easily

  • Receive a confirmation email instantly

It sounds complicated, but with the right software, it’s not. Class Manager does all of this for you. Simply add a link to your portal’s enrolment page, and we’ll handle the rest.

2. Update Your Website and Online Presence

Next up, ensure your website, social media pages, and Google Business profile (essentially anywhere you can be found online) are completely up to date. With the latest images, competitions you’ve won, your lesson timetable, and, of course, your prices and discounts.

Make sure it’s crystal clear that you’re accepting new students and offering trial lessons, with clear, easy-to-spot calls to action linking directly to your booking page.

A few key tips:

  • Use buttons or banners that say “Book Your Trial Now.”

  • Feature testimonials or images from real students

Localised Marketing

Now there is no point in broadcasting your studio online if it’s unclear where you are based. Having your location unclear could lead to people not booking or people from far away booking by mistake.

Your local marketing ties directly into your online presence. Make it incredibly easy for people to know where you are.

Be sure to:

  • Display your location and address prominently on your website and social media bios

  • Update your Google Business Profile with accurate details

  • Include a map and parking information if possible (especially if you don’t have your own car park)

Keywords

Another essential part of your website strategy is keywords. These are the search phrases people use when looking for dance lessons online — through Google, social media, or even AI tools like ChatGPT.

Examples of useful keywords include:

  • “Ballet classes in Bristol”

  • “Dance school for beginners”

  • “Dance lessons near me”

Knowing which keywords are relevant helps you shape your website content, social media posts, and Google Business updates so you appear in the right search results.

3. Build a Strong Marketing Pipeline

It’s one thing to get trial students through the door — but the real success comes from converting them into full-time students.

To do that, you’ll need a nurturing and proven marketing pipeline. We cover this in detail in another post, but here are the essentials:

  • Set up automated emails to follow up with trial students

  • Ensure your messages are warm, relational, and encouraging (use the dancer's name, reference to a conversation you had with the parents, etc.)

  • Include all the information families need to make a decision, sign-up fees, discounts, and term dates

  • Highlight any January offers, multi-class discounts, or sign-up incentives

This consistent follow-up helps you build relationships and boosts conversion rates — turning interested trial dancers into dedicated students.

We cover what a successful marketing pipeline for dance studios looks like in our blog post, ‘What is a Marketing Pipeline? (And Why Dance Studio Owners Need One)’, We will also be hosting a webinar covering this topic, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
